Famous for it’s gold mining – both past and present - the township of Waihi is located at the foot of the Coromandel Peninsula, approx 1 hr 45 min drive from Auckland International airport, An hour from Hamilton and 45 minutes from Tauranga. The town has a resident population of approx 4,500 people and is known as New Zealand’s Heart of Gold – for reasons that will become plainly obvious when you arrive!
